My name is Abbee, and I’m the founder and editor of Leafy Green Life. To illustrate what I’m talking about, I’d like to share my own “leafy green” story (below), and how you can benefit from the knowledge that has helped me and many others like me!
Desperate for a Change
I’ll begin my story about six months after the birth of my first child. At this point, I had not only failed to lose my “pregnancy” weight, I had managed to pack on pounds instead! I now weighed even more than the day I brought my infant son home from the hospital. On top of that, I was plagued with chronic yeast infections, debilitating migraine headaches, and insatiable cravings for sweets.
One day, after an agonizing migraine had put me out of action and caused me to miss a friend’s wedding, I decided that this downward spiral of declining health was going to have to stop. I went to a local book store (this was 1988, before internet searches) and found a couple of books which talked about my symptoms. They were written by doctors who had prescribed sugar-free, grain-free diets to their patients with great success. Not only did the vast majority of their patients report feeling better, but many patients reported significant weight loss as well!
I immediately began to follow the recommended course of eating, eliminating nearly all sugars and grains, and eating a diet focused on lean protein, eggs, legumes, good fats, and lots of leafy, green veggies such as spinach and turnip greens. For several weeks, I even eliminated fruit from my diet. I drank mainly water with fresh-squeezed lemon juice. My headaches disappeared immediately with this diet, and my chronic yeast infections gradually left as well. By the time my son was a year old, I had shed fifty pounds, and felt like a new person.
From Then Until Now…
That was nearly thirty years ago, and I’m happy to report that I have never suffered from another migraine in all that time. But my education regarding proper nutrition was far from complete. I followed a career path in the dietary supplement industry for over 25 years, and devoted thousands of hours to learning about many, many supplements, and how they worked to produce benefits. Yet, one thing kept becoming more and more apparent: all the supplements in the world can’t make up for a poor diet.
The average Western diet tends to be highly acid-yielding, and is responsible for a wide spectrum of chronic to serious illnesses. Learning to eat less acidic foods and more alkaline foods can help to quickly improve overall health by reducing the acidic waste that accumulates in the body. Because of well-established eating habits and easy access to acidic foods, it can be a little daunting to switch to foods that increase the body’s alkalinity. That’s why “Leafy Green Life” is here: we want to give you the advantages of the best information, tips, and shortcuts for restoring your body’s ideal acid/alkaline balance.
